About

Claudia Wilde is an Australian and Austrian-based photographic artist, writer and mother of three of Austrian origin. Informed by years working across gastronomy, hospitals, aged- and palliative care environments, her work draws from sustained encounters with care, vulnerability and mortality and the impact a loss of connection with the natural world has on the human psyche.

Her practice concerns itself with themes surrounding the self, womanhood and the natural world. Mental health, body image, identity and familial bonds are part of the layered complexities being explored within her writing and photographic work. Through the past six years she has focused on creating imagery with subjects reconnecting to the natural world during transitional periods in their lives.

She aims to showcase not only the essentiality in nourishing a relationship with nature for our mental, physical and spiritual health but also to remind both subjects and viewers that we are not, in fact, separate from the natural world.Her images are an investigation into the intrinsic bond we share with nature and an advocate for the return to it, ourselves and each other. She uses predominantly black and white photography to emphasise on the exploration of memory and belonging and often places herself within the frame to examine her own life, transformation and relationship to earth.
